I can finally say I’ve been to Seattle, Washington! I don’t know how it’s possible that through all of my traveling around the world with Disney On Ice and trips to Vancouver, I had never visited this vibrant city until now. I still can’t get over how lucky Alex and I are to be working aboard a cruise ship where Seattle is our home port. We are really so happy to be apart of Explorer of The Seas.
The photos I’ve added to this blog are from our very first day in Seattle where we were free from rehearsals for the day. We made our way to the downtown area, and of course found ourselves within the busy and beautiful Pike Place Market. I had always seen pictures and heard of this extraordinary place, but I truly did not expect the hustle of all the tourists to be crammed into one special market. It’s evident as to why the tourists migrate here. There is history, uniqueness from all other markets around the world, and the very first ever Starbucks Coffee Shop is located here as well. Many restaurants, or ‘must eat’ Seattle destinations are located within this area, so it was bound to be as busy as it was for a Friday morning in the middle of summer.
We had lunch at Beechers, which is famous for their homemade cheese. If you’re a cheese lover this is the place to go! I had heard about the location through a Pinterest find, so once I saw the line to taste the cheese I knew we had to try it for ourselves! I had the Mac & Cheese, and Alex had the delicious grilled cheese with tomato soup! Both are definitely a must try! Get a small portion of the Mac & Cheese, it’s quite a heavy meal, but so good!
The market is home to all kinds of fresh seafood, vegetables, fruits, flowers, crafts, and pretty much any kind of souvenir you can think of. It’s located perfectly alongside the harbour waters of Seattle. Pike Place is truly a perfect market.
The Gum Wall, sounds intriguing doesn’t it? I was so curious of this spot for as long as I can remember, and when we finally stumbled upon it Alex was horrified! He was so disgusted! I thought it was funny, and a clever way of bringing in tourists and bloggers to such a colourful wall. It’s really a ‘Gum Tunnel’ more than just one wall as I had imagined. I’ll be back for more photos, preferably a classic photo of blowing a bubble!
I was happy to view the spectacle of the Pike Place Market in the peak summer. It was nice to be apart of it all. Apart of every other persons summer vacation to Seattle!
